Story
Since its founding in 1987, TOMCAT has embodied the spirit of innovation that was the genesis of the company. With a
commitment to service and a reputation of innovative products and solutions of the highest quality, TOMCAT established
itself as a distinguished partner with customers worldwide.
Initially becoming an industry leader for trussing and related items to the touring rock-and-roll industry, TOMCAT soon
began to manufacture portable outdoor roof systems. An early success, these structures continue to be a major part
of the TOMCAT product line.
As the demand for TOMCAT products has grown, so too has the company, both in terms of physical plants and number of
employees. What started with fewer than five people in a building of less than 5,000 square feet has grown to a
corporation with manufacturing locations all over the globe.
TOMCAT has been fortunate to manufacture items for some of the major names in rock-and-roll. Through projects for customers
like Robbie Williams, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, U2, Janet Jackson, and many others, TOMCAT has been established as
an industry leading solutions provider. Not limited to rock-and-roll, the strong TOMCAT reputation then led the company to
manufacture equipment for touring Broadway shows along the lines of Lion King, Mamma Mia, The Producers, and Wicked.
The continued growth and development of the range of TOMCAT capabilities has evolved with a vast scope of new market
demands. This evolution has given the company the opportunity to expand further. With products and solutions used in a
variety of theme park environments, museum exhibits, industrial theater, and interactive marketing environments, TOMCAT
continues to reinforce its commitment to innovation.
TOMCAT has also been a leader in safety and education. As one of the first ETCP recognized rigging training programs,
TOMCAT has conducted classes and seminars since 1993. Additionally, TOMCAT has been a key contributor with the PLASA
(formerly ESTA) Technical Standards Program that has authored a wide range of standards to promote safe working practices
for the entertainment industry.
In 2007, TOMCAT became a part of The Vitec Group plc, which principally serves customers in the worldwide media sector
with products and services for the broadcast, entertainment and photographic industries. TOMCAT collaborates closely with
its European sister companies, Litec and Brilliant Stages to provide total staging solutions to customers worldwide.
One of the keys to TOMCAT's success, particularly with custom projects, has been the early and consistent commitment to a
fully staffed in-house design department that works with customers, designers and consulting engineering firms to maintain
the highest standards of quality and safety while maintaining the project vision. TOMCAT's people, products, and
solutions consistently perform with "Strength Under Pressure". It's engineered into everything we do.
